Sound familiar?
If you’ve seen any of these, you’re not imagining it.
You’ve tried flashcards, extra reading time, maybe a tutor. Something still feels off. Here is what parents tell us they see at home.
Swapping in a word that starts with the same letter is guessing, not reading. It means a skill step is missing.
Their brain treats every word like it’s brand new each time. The word was memorized, not read.
Homework ends in tears. They’re starting to believe the struggle means something is wrong with them.
You’ve been waiting. Every year it feels more urgent, not less. Your gut is worth listening to.
The Reading Ladder
Reading is 8 skills. They come in a fixed order.
Letter sounds. Short words. Letter teams. Blends. Silent e. Vowel teams. Big words. Smooth reading. Every reader climbs the same ladder. Every step holds up the one above it.
A child stuck on step 3 cannot be fixed with step 6 books. Harder books and more pressure do nothing until the missing step is rebuilt. The quiz finds that step from things you already see at home.

Why our books are different
The Logic of English: reading without guessing.
Most classrooms teach kids to guess. Look at the picture. Try the first letter. Memorize the word. It looks like reading in kindergarten. Then the pictures go away, the words get longer, and the guessing stops working. That is the wall so many kids hit in 3rd grade.
- Guess the word from the picture or the first letter
- Memorize long lists of sight words
- Move up book levels even when skills are shaky
- English gets treated like a pile of exceptions to memorize
- Every sound and spelling pattern is taught directly, in order
- Books only use what your child has already learned, so guessing is impossible
- Kids learn the rules that explain almost every English word
- Each step is made solid before the next one starts
This is the Science of Reading put into practice. It is what our teachers use at Feller School every day, and every book in your quiz results comes from it.
